Sawmill Tours
A unique educational experience.
One hour tour includes a sawmill and planing mill in operation. Discussion centers on forestry, conservation, and renewable resources, as well as the steps involved in processing logs and lumber. Tours are given in the fall (Sept.-Nov.) and the spring (April-June). This is an "outside classroom" and winter isn't much fun!
Tours are for a maximum of 50-60 children, plus teachers and chaperones. Due to safety and space restraints, we must strictly enforce this limit. Our schedule cannot always accommodate groups of fewer than 50. Tours are not suitable for pre-schoolers or kindergartners. No tours on Saturday or Sunday. A small cost of $5 per child allows everyone to take home a piece of wood to count the rings and remember the tour. Adult visitors are welcome as our guests. Minimum group fee is $150. A certificate of insurance is required from your school district / organization prior to the tour date.
Sorry, lunch and group restroom facilities are not available. Parks with full facilities are located nearby: Eagleville Park (Lower Providence Township) is only a short distance away, as are Valley Forge and Evansburg Parks. Arrangements for park use must be made by your group through the appropriate township or park ranger.
